Protective Force Shift Leader (Lieutenant)

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Protective Force Shift Leader (Lieutenant) to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will serve as a Security Police Officer Shift Leader for the Protective Force Section at the Department of Energy Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Responsible for the supervising, developing, mentoring, and teaching of a Security Police Officer Team in compliance with DOE Order 473.2A, Protection Program Operations, and other applicable regulations. Must be able to supervise and manage the Security Operations independently during times of limited staffing. Must be able to lead Security Police Officer response to emergency and crisis situations to include Use of Force tactics to defuse security related threats. Must be willing to be on-call, respond to security and non-security related incidents, interface and coordinate with other first-responders. Investigate security-related incidents and interview witnesses, reporting persons, and victims, and complete detailed Security Incident Reports. Must be willing to conduct/supervise vehicle and foot patrols and detect unusual activities; control vehicle and pedestrian traffic and restrict access to those without proper identification and access authorization; operate government vehicles, communications equipment, camera systems, and other special purpose security equipment and systems; enforce standards of conduct and adherence to laws, orders, and regulations; ensure that daily administrative documentation is kept concise and complete at all times; maintain all daily assigned equipment in functional and presentable condition; and/or other duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager. Understand and embrace nuclear safety culture principles.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to pass the Basic Readiness Standards (BRS). The BRS consists of completing the half-mile in 4 minutes 40 seconds or less and the 40-yard dash from the prone position in 8.5 seconds or less.

After you are hired, you must be able to pass a Federal background investigation and obtain a DOE “Q” Security Clearance within two (2) years of date of hire date, and maintain that clearance to continue employment.

You must maintain the ability to pass all medical and physical fitness standards as well as other required job-specific qualification programs to continue employment.

Continued employment requires successful completion of the TRF-100 (Tactical Response Force) within two (2) years of the date of hire date.

Exempt Grade Level(s) (29-31)

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Associate's degree with four (4) years of related professional experience in physical security, law enforcement, or military, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of related professional experience in physical security, law enforcement, or military is required.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must have practical experience and be proficient in software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and MS Outlook.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • WIPP Security Police Officer experience.
  • Two (2) year of experience managing/supervising security, military, or law enforcement personnel.
  • Active Q Clearance.

Minimum salary $75,013 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
