Underground Facility Operations (Roving Watch)

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a Underground Facility Operations (Roving Watch) to join our team to support our government customer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will follow all safety procedures, regulations and policies. Conduct frequent inspections of work area to assure that safe working conditions are maintained. Promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Operate and monitor equipment and systems in accordance with established procedures. Assist higher classified facility personnel with operation, testing and maintenance of underground equipment and systems, as assigned in accordance with established procedures. Perform routine functions, such as tagout/lockout, log keeping, monitoring and housekeeping in accordance with Conduct of Operations procedures. Perform technical reviews/validations of procedures as assigned. Obtain materials and supplies from warehouse/storage as required. Report all issues or concerns related to integration of facility activities/readiness, environment, or quality to management. Conduct frequent inspections of assigned work areas to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. Promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Implement standards contained in SIMCO "Code of Business Ethics and Conduct''. Obtain and maintain respiratory protection qualification. Obtain and maintain Rad II qualification and work within contamination areas.

USW Bargaining Unit Position

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and completed applications are the means of determination.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency is required.
  • One (1) year of operating experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Three (3) years of experience in an underground environment is preferred.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Pay rate is $36.86 per hour.
