Health and Safety Analyst

Department: ES-IP Safety Programs
Location: Carlsbad, NM

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a Health and Safety Analyst to join our team to support our government customer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will provide support to a wide variety of standard and specialized safety activities, such as using data to uncover hidden risks, learning data patterns, and helping to prevent injuries in the workplace. The Health and Safety Analyst is responsible for detailed in-depth analysis, development of analytic tools such as dashboards and visualizations, development of reporting tools, and overall oversight for health and safety data. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement safe work practices and participate in proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, the public, and the environment at all times.
  • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques.
  • Utilize statistical techniques to analyze safety incidents, environmental metrics, and health-related data.
  • Develop and implement data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems.
  • Prepare reports and analysis for internal, external clients and/or stakeholders.
  • Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.
  • Collaborate with team members to collect and analyze data.
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities and make recommendations.
  • Perform data extraction from various sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and software systems.
  • Validate data accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop leading indicator models to identify potential safety hazards and opportunities to improve safety performance.
  • Create engaging reports and dashboards to inform our workforce of safety hazards relevant to job tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret findings and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Exempt Grade Level(s) (28-32)

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Advanced proficiency in visual development of data metrics.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Nuclear or high-hazard facility experience.
  • Experience with Safety related programs/processes and OSHA 300 reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with PowerBI or similar business intelligence tools for creating engaging dashboards and reports.
  • Experience training, coaching, or mentoring employees.
  • Familiarity with DOE Directives, Standards, and Guides.
  • Familiarity with the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

Minimum salary $67,817 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
