Central Characterization Program (CCP) Mobile Loading Operator

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Central Characterization Program (CCP) Mobile Loading Operator to join our team located in Aiken, South Carolina.

The successful candidate will complete training necessary to obtain qualifications for CH/RH Packaging Operations, Incidental Rigger, and Helium Leak Detection. Interface with working groups and customers from outside organizations as needed to complete work scope. Responsible for ensuring compliant packaging operations, payload assembly and related to the shipment of TRU Mixed Waste. Ensure compliant closure of Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Type B packaging in accordance with the package specific Certificate of Compliance. Mentor team members and provide opportunities for professional development. Other duties as assigned.

The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday; 10 hour days.

Exempt Grade Level(s) (28-33)

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and completed applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Q” Clearance.
  • Previous experience with nuclear and/or hazardous waste/materials.
  • Physical demands associated with this position include prolonged standing, extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted item (up to 50 lbs.).
  • The ability to negotiate stairs, ladders and platforms, as well as the ability to work in various weather conditions.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Basic skill in researching, and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation of TRU Waste.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Certification activities and equipment.
  • Previous experience with Nondestructive Examination techniques.

Minimum salary $67,817 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
