Procurement Expeditor

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a Procurement Expediter to join our team to support our government customer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will be responsible to support WIPP site daily operational procurement activities. The candidate will attend Operations, Maintenance, Mining, Warehouse and other applicable meeting to ensure procurement activities are prioritized correctly to support the end users. Candidate will communicate the procurement status of critical items as needed in site operational meetings and ensure the end users are knowledgeable of current purchasing status. Candidate will reach out to suppliers for delivery status and ensure delivery schedules are met. Support requestors to define purchase requisition, ensure purchase requisition documents are compliant, and support end users to streamline pre-purchase requisition activities. Candidate will review incoming purchase requisitions and engage with requestors to ensure appropriate priority is assigned and communicated to the assigned procurement buyer. Candidate may perform procurement buying functions to purchase items or establishing subcontracts to support site activities.

The individual will perform expediting activities on the CMRR Project and ensures the timely delivery of approvals, materials and equipment to meet project needs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Build effective working relationships and interact with supplier and other project departments.
  • Review the issued purchase order / subcontract to understand the requirements.
  • Contact / Expedite suppliers to obtain timely submission of engineering data, follow up on material acquisitions, production schedules and shipments.
  • Coordinate with individuals across many departments, i.e., but not limited to Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Safety, to ensure the purchase order / sub-contract are progressing to support job site requirements.
  • Maintain a working file of expediting related documents and memoranda of conversations to record expediting activities. Maintains a system to initiate follow-up actions at appropriate times.
  • Evaluates production schedules and progress reports from suppliers to determine if their programs and work-in-progress is on track to support jobsite requirement.
  • Coordinates with end users to establish priorities, sequences and required delivery dates and instructs suppliers accordingly.
  • Obtains copies of supplier’s orders for material, performs sub-supplier expediting, where necessary and work closely with STR and QA to ensure awareness of materials subject to quality performance and their locations of manufacture.
  • Participates in pre-award and post-award meetings to review and discuss schedules and potential problem areas that may impact required shipment dates.
  • Coordinate shipping arrangements as required.
  • Reviews receiving reports against shipping documents to verify that material has been received at the jobsite.
  • Assist is resolutions missing materials, damages, shortages, etc.

Exempt Grade Levels (28-34)

Minimum Qualifications: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of professional experience, or
  • Associate's degree with seven (7) years of professional experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eleven (11) years of professional experience is required.
  • Self-starter with the ability to define tracking and follow up mechanisms.
  • Experience with purchasing activities with commercial, industrial and service type procurements.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial facility operational activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate across several different organizations including external suppliers.
  • Knowledgeable of general procurement terms and approaches.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or relevant procurement certifications.
  • Prior procurement and/or operations experience with Department of Energy or Department of Defense.
  • Knowledgeable in commercial nuclear or DOE nuclear operations.
  • Previous experience with DOE operations and maintenance activities.

Minimum salary $67,817 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
