Security Systems Associate

Department: PI-SS Safeguards & Security

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Security Systems Associate to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful applicant will support the Safeguards and Security (S&S) Performance Assurance Program (PAP). Tasked with assisting in the development and oversight of implementation and administration of site physical security systems. Ensuring compliance with National Drivers, Department of Energy (DOE) Directives, and site procedures. Applicant will participate in consultation with key stakeholders prior to implementation and coordinate with external departments to ensure site awareness. Applicant will assist in the development of training for required personnel in accordance with site and manufacturers specifications. Applicant will perform administrator duties under the direction of the PAP Manager of key security systems, physical access control systems (PACS), camera systems, and Self-Assessments. Applicant will routinely guide the Protective Force (PF) and S&S staff on new and incumbent systems. Digitally create and implement new badge designs and layouts as necessary. Routinely monitor site personnel within the PACS to ensure personnel are being added, denied access, or removed as applicable. Assist PAP Manager with testing of security software. Assist in the performance of PAP surveillances to ensure compliance with DOE directives and S&S procedures. Assist the PF Training program with the development of additional trainings on security systems, as applicable, for the PF and Personnel Security teams. Applicant will lead the WIPP S&S Security Awareness program and embrace nuclear security safety principles. Applicant may be assigned additional administrative duties by S&S Management as required.

Non-Exempt Grade Levels (24-26)

  • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of professional experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of professional experience is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" Clearance.
  • Must be Security systems technologically proficient.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active "Q" Clearance preferred.
  • Certification or experience with CCure 9000 System
  • Software House AC9410 System Managers.
  • Software House AC9006 Advanced System Managers.

Minimum salary $52,255 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
