Benefits Representative

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors LLC, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Benefits Representative and join our Human Resources team to support our government customer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will administer human resources policies and programs to support Corporate and departmental objectives. Perform administrative details of a complex nature in employee benefits administration, applying comprehensive knowledge of established policies and procedures. Maintain awareness of changes in federal and state laws and regulations. Prepare standard statistical and informational reports compiling and interpreting data from a variety of internal and external sources. Conduct frequent audits of SIMCO’s benefits plans and carrier/vendor systems to ensure compliance with plan documents and carriers’ requirements. Review and process monthly carrier statements for payment. Recommend innovative programs to management to enhance positive employee relations. Provide counsel to employees on a variety of human resources issues and concerns, including matters related to employee benefits, retirement, ADA, FMLA, and leave of absences. Interface with payroll and carriers as needed. The successful candidate will also perform additional general support, including performance of special projects, in support of the Human Resources department including responsibility for development and submission of contract deliverables. The Benefits Representative duties and focus may evolve over time as needs within the organization change or emerge.

Position Expectations:
- Manage the benefits enrollment process and ensure accuracy of employee information
- Support new benefits programs to enhance employee satisfaction and retention
- Evaluate existing benefits offerings and recommend improvements to align with employee needs
- Provide guidance and support to employees on benefit options and assist with issue resolution
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to coordinate benefits administration and resolve complex matters
- Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and facilitate ongoing education sessions for current employees
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date benefits records while ensuring compliance with regulations
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance our benefits offerings
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Exempt Salary Grade (28-30)

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency plus eleven (11) years of professional experience,
  • Associate’s Degree plus seven (7) years of professional experience,
  • or a Bachelor’s Degree plus three (3) years of professional experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Related experience in Human Resources, auditing, accounting, or other business fields.
  • Demonstrated experience with applications such as Microsoft Office, HR/Payroll software and time reporting software is preferred
  • Experience presenting to large groups

Starting salary $67,817 per year **
