Plant Helper - SSCVS

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), an LLC of Bechtel, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Plant Helper to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The Plant Helper will assist in a wide variety of tasks requiring moderate knowledge of maintenance, including planning, layout, installation, troubleshooting and repair of facility equipment and systems. Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and policies. Conduct frequent inspections of work area to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. Promptly report any hazards for unsafe conditions to management. Perform a variety of mechanical/electrical tasks (plumbing, facility equipment, etc.). Transport, package, mark, label, and place hazardous and non-hazardous materials into designated storage areas. Perform duties related to the operation and maintenance of both surface and underground tool cribs. Perform similar and related duties as assigned. This position could require you to work in the WIPP underground mine and in contaminated areas, thus requiring you to wear Personal Protective Equipment that would require the use of a respirator and a Pulmonary Function Test to be performed. The schedule for this type of work could mean moving you to shift work.

This is a USW Bargaining Unit Position

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and completed applications are the means of determination.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency is required. (Only requirement if current SIMCO USW member)
  • One year of verifiable experience:
    • operating heavy equipment (such as fork lifts, skid steers, other) or,
    • in mining or,
    • in construction.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information

Filled with SIMCO USW membership first, according to CBA, before other candidate considerations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Candidates with current Class A CDL, previous radiation technology experience, or hazardous material handling experience preferred.
  • Three (3) years of general maintenance experience is desired.

Pay Rate is $32.03 per hour.
