Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), an LLC of Bechtel, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Electrician to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The electrician (SE) is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of surface electrical maintenance activities which include preventive, corrective and modification type work to ensure that WIPP is able to achieve mission milestones on time and within budget. The SE will be expected to follow all company procedures, policies, regulations and standards in a manner that achieves WIPP’s performance goals by maintaining Safety and Procedure Compliance as two of our core values. The SE will be able to review drawings, procedures and work documents at a minimum to ensure that work is executable. The SE will obtain the necessary qualifications in a timely manner and maintain them as required. Conduct frequent inspections of work area to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. Promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Perform similar and related duties as assigned. Must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test to qualify to wear and work in a respirator. The candidate for this position may work on the surface or in the underground.
This position requires these Physical Requirements:
This position requires intermittent standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and eye-hand/foot-hand-eye coordination. There will be occasional bending, twisting, crawling, climbing, and foot-hand-eye coordination as well as frequent standing, sitting, walking, and eye-hand-coordination.
There will be repetitive movements of intermittent fingers, wrist/hand, arm/shoulder, and leg/foot as well as occasional leg/foot. There will be frequent fingers, wrist/hand, arm/shoulder. There will be hand manipulating for both hands, simple grasping, power grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Job will require reaching at or above shoulder level and use of the feet to operate foot controls.
For lift/carry/push/pull requirements it will be intermittent. There will be occasional Sensory: hearing - must be able to hear quiet conversation in both ears, Vision: acuity - near, far, depth, color, full field, and low light, Balance: must maintain without assistance, Touch: pressure, vibration, Smell: chemical odors, smoke, and equipment's odors, and Speech: must be able to articulate verbally. You will also need to be able to use a computer mouse.

Pay Rate is $37.74 per hour
