CCP Visual Examination Operator

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), an LLC of Bechtel, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as CCP Visual Examination Operator (VEO) to join our team located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

This job is located in Los Alamos, NM.
This position does not include relocation assistance.

The successful candidates will:

  • Obtain Qualification as a CCP Visual Examination Operator.
  • Responsible for the Visual Examination of nuclear waste.
  • Verify the physical form of the waste is approved and prohibited items are excluded.
  • Interact with Visual Examination Experts and other SIMCO teams to problem solve off normal conditions, new packaging configurations, and unfamiliar waste.
  • Create, review and approve Visual Examination Batch Data Reports with an emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

The work schedule for this position is Monday- Thursday 6:30 am to 5:00 pm.

SIMCO Non-Exempt Grade 25-29

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor’s degree or
  • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of working experience, or
  • High School diploma or Equivalency plus four (4) years of working experience is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" Clearance with a HRP Certification.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.*

*U.S. Citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE order 472.2 for additional information.; Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Characterization activities and Visual Examination Process a plus.

Starting salary $55,555 per year *

*Base salary will be dependent upon candidate's background (i.e. education and experience)
